Disclaimer (15/10/2025) : the recruitment of the student intake for the academic year 2026-2028 will be without scholarship. If you choose to proceed with your application nevertheless, and if you make it to the interview phase, you will be asked to justify how you intend to finance your mobilities during your studies (alternative grants, etc).

All Students accepted into the EMJM Chemoinformatics+ programme (with or without a scholarship) are exempt from tuition fees.

Enrolled students with disabilities (with or without scholarship) are eligible for the Contribution for individual needs, such as those related to the acquisition of special items or services (e.g. assistance by third persons, adaptation of work environment, additional travel/transportation costs).

The program also takes in charge a comprehensive health insurance for all participants.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Scholarships

An EMJM Scholarship is a contribution to the costs incurred by the beneficiary students and shall cover travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs. It is calculated on the basis of a monthly unit cost for the entire period needed by the enrolled scholarship holder to complete the study programme. This period covers study, research, placement activities, thesis preparation and defence, in line with the requirement of the joint Master. Its amount is 1400 euros/ month during the duration of the programme.

The European Commission attributed 76 Grants to the EMJM Chemoinformatics+ between 2022 and 2027. This corresponds to:

40 scholarships available for students from Programme countries See for the definition

20 Scholarships availables for students from Partner countries (All other countries)

16 Scholarships for students from the NDICI region (Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, The Republic of Moldova, Morocco, occupied Palestinian territory, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine)

This corresponds to 22 EMJM scholarships per intake.

Students apply for a master's programme, in which they may or may not benefit from an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. By its nature, this master's degree is not a scholarship programme, but a joint master involving a consortium of universities located in different countries.

The number of scholarships attributed is limited for each edition. The Selection Committee therefore strongly encourages all applicants to look for alternative sources of fundings which they might be eligible for. Some examples below, in the section 'Grants from external sources'.

EMJM scholarships can be offered to students from all over the world. However, consortia should ensure geographical balance - i.e. no more than 10% of the total number of scholarships awarded during project implementation should be awarded to candidates from the same nationality.

Additionally, applicants who have already benefitted from an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship are not eligible to apply for an additional scholarship.

Important: students must go on a mobility with their own budget, which should cover part of their expenses. The Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is not a salary but a contribution, and should not constitute the entirety of a student's budget whilst on mobility.

Source: Erasmus+ Programme Guide

Regular Erasmus+ Grants

Inside the consortium, bilateral agreements are in place between Strasbourg and Lisbon, Milan, Ljubljana, and between Paris and Milan. Therefore, students who chose a track that includes these partners can be apply for regular Erasmus + grants for their mobility period.

There exist also a programme for International Credit Mobility (ICM) between Bar Ilan and Strasbourg, that will run until 2023.

Special Grants from Partner universities

Some partners offer also study grants to their students for which students in this course are eligible.

Grants from external sources

France-Slovenia: The mobility of students is based on the ERASMUS program. Additionally, the “Institut Français de Slovénie” offers generous grants to Slovenian students doing a mobility in France.

France (Paris)-Italy: The SMARTS-UP Graduate Schools programme, managed by the Université Paris Cité, aims to promote the internationalisation of Master's programmes and help attract the best international students in order to constitute a pool of excellence for the recruitment of future doctoral students.

In this context, we offer € 10,000 scholarships for the academic year 2026-2027 to allow Graduate Schools taking part in this project to welcome international students in their Masters programmes. The scholarships are awarded for one year.

Submit your application before 16th January 2026, 12pm (noon, CET)!

More information on the application process here. You must choose the graduate school named 'Drug development', mention Bioinformatique, track In Silico Drug Design - Bioactives Molecules .

Other Erasmus+ studies grants might be possible for semesters in Milan.

France-Ukraine: scholarships are offered by the French Embassy in Ukraine.

Strasbourg and Tel-Aviv are twin cities. This offers additional scholarship between the two sites.

France-Italy: the best students can apply for a scholarship in the Vinci program. Furthermore, scholarships from the French government may also be available for students taking part in one of our French-Italian study-tracks: find out more.

France-Portugal: the best students can apply for a scholarship from the Pessoa program.

For students coming to France: please see Campus France.

The Erasmus Mundus master degree ChEMoinformatics+ has several tracks, so the candidates have to rank all tracks by order of preference. This ranking will be used to maximize the satisfaction of the candidates while, at the same time, dispatch them homogeneously across the proposed tracks.

The selection process of the Programme consists of four steps that include the assessment of applications in a gradual workflow leading to selection of the best applications.

First step – eligibility check The files of candidates are collected via the common application portal and distributed to the members of the administration board. Each member of the consortium does the eligibility check according to the common rules of the program.

Second step – Definition of a Pre-Nominal list The administration board builds a list of the candidates to interview. For the Pre-Nominal list, students will be selected based on the following selection criteria:

Academic merits : 1 (poor) – 5 (outstanding) ;

Relevance of the bachelor degree / Prerequisites of the course : 1 (poor) – 5 (outstanding) ;

Motivation : 1 (poor) – 5 (outstanding) ;

Number of Reference letters and additional relevant information : 1 (poor) – 5 (outstanding) ;

Language skills 0 (sufficient) - 1 (better than average, only evaluated in case of identical points for two candidates).

Total max. points 20/20

Third step – Interviews The interviews of the candidates and the enrolment of the selected students are organized. The interview can be organized either in person or through video-conference. During the interview, knowledge of the candidate in chemistry, physical-chemistry and computer sciences is challenged. The board members answer to interrogations of the candidate about the program.

Fourth step – Final and Reserve Nomination list Candidates are assigned to tracks and a final list of nominated students is prepared, taking into account their preferences and the need to homogenously divide the applicants across all tracks. A reserve list of names is added to choose new candidates in case some of the initially selected ones decide to decline to join the Erasmus Mundus master degree ChEMoinformatics+. This final list will be announced by the Coordinating Institution to all candidates within the given deadline. The Coordinating Institution will send an email to notify the final decision. If candidates are nominated on the list of reserve, the Coordinating Institution will send an email and communicate the rank. The administration board validates the grant attribution. If a nominated student withdraws his/her application, the next person from the reserve list moves up to take the free place. The final decision will be returned to the students in time for them to complete the visa procedure before September.

Selected students will receive a Student Agreement to sign prior to the start of the academic year:

All questions relating to the 2026-2028 applications must be sent to chimie-erasmusmundus-contact@unistra.fr. Any questions sent to an email address other than this one will not be answered.

Applications

Student recruitment for the six double degrees in Chemoinformatics is unified via this single Internet portal. Joint admission criteria have been defined for the existing degrees; they are extended to the Erasmus Mundus Chemoinformatics+ Master's degree.

Students are admitted after a selection interview which takes place in one of the consortium sites. In order to guarantee the same treatment to all students, these interviews are conducted by two teachers from two different sites. The final decision is collective and reflects the opinion of all members or the consortium. To the extent possible, the consortium considers gender equity among the students recruited during the discussions.

Prerequisites

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree (worth at least 180 ECTS or equivalent) in Chemistry, Physical-Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry or equivalent. It is recommended that these cover at least 20 ECTS in disciplines such as mathematics, computer science or physics and at least 70 ECTS in disciplines such as analytical and environmental chemistry, inorganic and physical chemistry, industrial chemistry and technology, and organic and bio-organic chemistry. This is a requirement for courses with the University of Milan. You can also apply, if you are in your last year of bachelor studies and graduate before the master's programme starts.

Candidates will need the European Chemistry Test (http://ectn.eu/committees/virtual-education-community/echemtest/), level 3. This test can be proposed by serveral members of the consortium. If the candidat does not have it prior registration, it is possible to pass this test during the first year. Diplomas and transcript of completed courses and grades are required. When the degree is not yet conferred, the student will be asked to present a proof of his/her status and can present certificate at a later date but before the start of the Programme.

As the teaching language during the first year might be Portuguese, Italian, French, Hebrew, Slovenian, Ukrainian or English. It is recommended to students to be fluent in the local language at where they wish to spend the first year. Some lectures can be taught in the local language during the 1st year - however, the teachers are English speaking and supportive for non-native speaking students. All pedagogical materials are available in English and exams can be passed in English.

A certificate to attest a level of B2 in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is NOT necessary for all students to be admitted to the Programme.
